Puppy Crate Training

Dog crate training is an essential part of dog house training. However it is always easier to crate train puppies than to crate train adult dogs, especially because the later have developed some habits on their own and it is therefore difficult to teach them new habits.

Therefore, it is advisable to start with a puppy crate training right after your pet has learned his lessons in basic obedience training.

It is also important to note that some dog owners feel that crates signify prison for their little pets, though it is not true.

Crate is a like a second home for your puppy and once it has learned its way into the crate, it will definitely become his favorite place for sleeping, eating and relaxing in the entire house.

Most of the dog owners face similar problems in puppy crate training and have no clue to proceed further. Some of the common problems while crate training puppies and their solutions have been discussed here:

1) Some people start with puppy crate training simultaneously with other elements of puppy house training such as obedience training and potty training.

They often end up making the puppy go to the crate when he has not been able to obey the commands. This should be avoided as the puppy will start taking its crate for a prison or some form of punishment and try staying away from it.

2) Sometimes puppies also try to avoid crate because they think their masters don’t want them around and are trying to keep them away.

It is advisable to send your puppy off to the crate when they are sleepy or putting their food next to crate, so that they realise that you are giving them their space rather than trying to keep them away from yourself.

3) Sometimes puppies react to the idea of crate because they are simply guided to the crate without right away and therefore, it is advisable to start with picking up your puppy and placing it in the crate for the first few times.

4) One of the most common problems that is faced by a lot of people during crate training their puppies is that the puppies do not want to stay in their crates.

However, this might not always be about playfulness of the puppy, as it might be having problems with the crate itself.

If your puppy jumps out of the crate even when it is sleepy or wants to eat, take the clue and change the crate for a more comfortable crate.

Crates are like home within your home for the puppy. It is a place where he can relax properly.

Dogs also need some space to themselves and once your puppy has learned that he has a particular room for himself, where he can eat or sleep without getting disturbed, he will start going to the crate when he is feeling sleepy on his own.
